You can probably guess that I didn’t take this photo today. But I thought we could all do with a splash of summer about now! This butterfly is collecting nectar (and inadvertently, pollen) from a thistle. I got in close to really show the beauty of both. The flower, as you may know, is the national flower of Scotland-land of my birth. This butterfly has been through the wars (look at his ragged wing) but keeps on going. Perhaps he is Scottish too!
A study in brown! The moisture from recent rain hid the leaf against the metal drain cover.
There has been some unseasonably warm weather recently, and this magnolia tree is starting to bud out. I don’t think I have ever seen such early signs of spring. Time to enjoy the great outdoors!
The snow on the leaf covered ground creates a tapestry. The only specks of colour are the occasional leaf and a dominating cigarette butt. Am I just trying to create a pleasant image or making a point about humans and our fractious relationship with nature? I’ll let you decide. I haven’t a clue.
This tree stump still has its roots coming out of the ground, stark black against the leaves and woodchips-which I found unusual. Is it just me or does it look like a squid with tentacles?
A mushroom was dragged onto the sidewalk outside my house last night. Some artistic woodland creature munched away until it sculpted a sea monster. Thanks, bunny!
